The Institute was established on February 6 , 1959 by the decision of the State Committee on Chemistry The Council of Ministers of the USSR in Chirchik, Uzbek SSR, as a branch of the Moscow State Institute of Nitrogen Industry of the USSR (Chirchik branch of GIAP).
The Chirchik branch of GIAP was established in order to provide the construction sites of nitrogen-tuk plants in Central Asia with design and estimate documentation and author's supervision to provide technical assistance for the normalization of the existing production of these plants, for the introduction of scientific developments and new types of fertilizers.
After the independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 1992, the Chirchik branch of GIAP was renamed the Uzbek Research and Design Institute of Chemical Industry "UzNIIHimproekt" (UzKSITLI).
In 1998, "UzNIIHimproekt" was renamed into the Chirchik branch of "UzNIIHimproekt" with the creation of the head institute "UzNIIHimproekt" in Tashkent.
In 2000, the UzNIIHimproekt Institute in Tashkent and the Chirchik branch of UzNIIHimproekt were merged to form the unified Design and Technology Institute UzNIIHimproekt in Chirchik (the State subsidiary of the Design and Technology Institute Uzkimesanoatloiha).
In 2002, the State subsidiary Design and Technology Institute "Uzkimesanoatloiha" was transformed into an open joint stock company (JSC) and then in 2014 JSC "Uzkimesanoatloiha" was transformed into JSC "Uzkimesanoatloiha".
